- Women’s Experiences of Repression in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe traces women’s experiences of terror and repression in the Eastern Bloc after the Second World War as well as its lasting impact for women and family life. Hignett’s contribution draws upon published and unpublished memoirs, translated into English for the first time, as well as archival documents to examine Czech women’s experiences of repression from 1948-68, including the various purges and show trials they were caught up in. The book demonstrates the way that Soviet repression shaped women’s everyday lives, including their relationships with men, children and the state.
