- A scholarly edition of?Pointed Roofs?and?Backwater, the first two volumes of Dorothy Richardson's pioneering modernist?novel,?Pilgrimage, the first literary text to be described as 'stream of?consciousness' (May Sinclair, 1918). The edition contains a new chronology of?Richardson's life, a history of the text, an introduction to both?Pilgrimage?and to?Pointed Roofs?and?Backwater, including?critical analysis of the novel's?genesis, composition, and reception, contextual information, explanatory notes,?and a full textual apparatus. The edition draws on over ten years of archival work in?Britain and the United States, funded by a major AHRC grant.
