- <20> After Cowley’s PhD (2009) and move to Helsinki University, collaboration continued with Charles. Research was extended both at Helsinki and Ulster, including Dominic Holmes’ PhD (2019) into personalised VR game-based rehab. EU Horizon 2020 (CEC-H2020-VIA Magic) funding of ~€1M was attained, Charles with Holmes (RA) translated their research from initial proof-of-concept to minimal viable product (TRL7). A large-scale trial was undertaken with 113 stroke survivors across Northern Ireland and Italy. Subsequently the team attained ~£40k NxSW ICURe (2020) (cohort e) and ~£300k Innovate UK funds (2021) (Project no. 103697) to spin-out their company and bring their product to market
