- Politics and Policy in China's Social Assistance Reform is the result of over ten years’ work including research in China at Nankai University, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and also the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The book draws on a wide range of primary source material to contextualise, understand and explain the development of both urban and rural social assistance reform in China from the 1990s. This included analysing government documents, newspaper articles, and interviews with officials and researchers in China. Significant parts of this source base had not been used by researchers in this area before.
