- This work records business transactions in a rigorous, computable format that explicitly maps the buyer to the seller and independent (e.g. regulatory bodies) perspective. This mapping was previously implicit in people’s minds, shrouding their fairness to all the transaction parties. REA2 presents a solid, computer-automated foundation for a core ontology of economic exchanges. It has informed ontologies (https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-030-62522-1_27) and vocabularies (https://valueflo.ws/introduction/contributors.html) for distributed business ecosystems such as decentralised energy networks (https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-030-14401-2_35). REA2 is being taken up in a forthcoming project on blockchain accounting (https://youtu.be/a2gQWW7FwNI) and smart-contract audit (http://www.bc4is.com/). REA2 has been transformed into executable code (https://doi.org/10.2308/ISYS-19-026).
