- The paper has resulted from a research project funded by French company RTE (contact: Dr Samuel Nguefeu, Deputy Head of Substations Department), which is the largest transmission system operator in Europe. The paper presents design principles for the latest topology of modular multilevel converters (MMCs) based on full-bridge technology. Considers converters with a mix of full bridge and half bridge cells. The reported findings have been used in over 100 follow-up studies worldwide and thus significantly influenced fundamental and applied research on MMC and also DC grids using MMC technology.
