- This 300-page monograph, based on over five years of research succeeds in placing the Taiping rebellion in the context of modern Chinese history, utilising c. 50 original Chinese language sources and nearly 200 English language sources to radically recalibrate the current historical interpretation of the religious context of this uprising. Supported by an AHRC doctoral award, it was described as an ‘an outstanding piece of revisionist scholarship on one of the most dramatic events in world history’ by Prof. Daniel Bays (formerly of Calvin College, USA).
