- The paper presents the first-ever shaking table experimental assessment of the tuned mass damper inerter (TMDI) which was previously researched only theoretically for vibrations mitigation in mechanical, aero and civil engineering structures (the original 2014 paper on TMDI has more than 300 citations on Google scholar). The paper establishes the feasibility of TMDI, by manufacturing and testing an innovative custom-built prototype, thus making a leap towards real-life engineering applications. This is a first major outcome of collaborative research among academics from City (UK) and Sapienza (Italy) Universities initiated by a funded research placement at Sapienza in 2017.
