- A 210,000 word monograph, drawing on research into some aspects of the subject over 30 years, and a sustained 4 years work across 17 core archives in China, Hong Kong, the US and UK, and a substantial corpus of digital materials in English and Chinese (eg a dozen newspaper platforms, genealogical platforms). The book brought together a complex body of materials in a pioneering study of the 175 year history of a British corporation, contextualising it in a diverse range of relevant literatures including: modern Chinese and British imperial history, decolonisation, Cold war history, business history, maritime and aviation history.
