- Broadcast authentication is a fundamental security service in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). We introduced a novel approach to protect against DoS attacks in WSNs by applying cooperative signature verification to an ID-Based Signature (vBNN). Compared to public-key ECC-based signature schemes such as ECDSA, which requires verification by signature and certificate, vBNN-IBS don’t require certificates. The performance evaluation shows that the accelerated vBNN-IBS saves up to 45% of the energy drained during the traditional signature verification and runs 66% faster. This result is significant to enhance WSNs security beyond the industry benchmark.
