- The book is a result of ten years’ of research in the western region of Nepal and Indian cities. The book traces linkages between the history, culture and the changing political economy of the middle hills of Nepal and the desire, agency, gendered and class-related experiences of young male migrant workers from poor households in rural Nepal. This challenging fieldwork involved travelling with a group of low-income migrants to capture their actual experiences of crossing the border. The resulting monograph thereby includes diverse forms of material and is the culmination of in-depth analytical work on part of the author.
