- Double-weighted statement
- This book draws on extensive research into primary sources to synthesise a new approach to its subject area. Unlike previous accounts that have anthologized or defended one element of practice over another, this book treats the field as an integrated whole. The scope of this book is therefore highly unusual in the field.
New information has been brought to light in the process of research into private, public and academic archives, as well as interviews with key figures. This material has enabled the development of a critical-theoretical framework related to the formation of publics as a complex interlocking terrain.
