- This book seeks to introduce Firestone’s work to a general audience and to provide new avenues of enquiry for university students and academics. It argues for the value of a critical return to Firestone’s 1970 manifesto The Dialectic of Sex for contemporary feminism. It meets the criteria for double-weighting in that it is the product of a sustained research effort into the historical context of Firestone’s work, the ideas of her intellectual interlocutors, and the feminist and scholarly reception of The Dialectic; it also examines Firestone’s arguments in-depth from the diverse perspectives of 21st century developments in reproductive politics.
