- The Spanish Civil War represents the culmination of an extended programme of research. The book is 406 pages in length, and was sole-authored by Charles Esdaile. It draws on the collection and analysis of a large body of archival research, undertaken over a considerable period, in libraries and archives across Spain and the British Isles. Primary sources consulted include printed reports, memoirs, autobiographies and eyewitness accounts, many of which have never before been consulted by historians.
