- Chemoradiotherapy (CRT) is a standard curative treatment for head and neck cancer. PET-CT response assessment is performed 3 months after finishing treatment. This pilot study, the 2nd available in the literature, showed that changes on PET-CT, CT, and MRI (including diffusion weighted and dynamic contrast enhanced imaging) occurred as early as 2 weeks after starting CRT. Methodology from this study, regarding tumour outlining and image analysis helped inform planning of a phase II trial (NCT03935672) looking at adapting RT based on individual response on PET-CT performed after 2 weeks of CRT, with the aim of reducing toxicity without affecting survival.
