- This paper addresses the unbalanced traffic load built by the IoT routing protocol RPL. The contribution was nominated to be presented within the Standards body Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) as a draft standard. Furthermore, Huawei Company offered to work jointly with the author on the contribution and published the 3rd version of the standard draft together within IETF (https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-qasem-roll-rpl-load-balancing-02). RPL is the main de facto routing protocol in low power and lossy networks and machine-to-machine networks, which are the backbone of the IoT paradigm. The introduced solution managed to balance the traffic load over the network
