- The algorithm discussed (inspired by Genetic Algorithms) gives superior or at least equal results in sequencing the time-based design structure matrix when compared with other algorithms from the literature. The improved sequencing achieved enables design processes to be undertaken more efficiently than done so previously. The paper received the Journal of Engineering Design's 'Best Paper Award' in 2016. As well as providing evidence of scientifically rigorous engineering design research. selection criteria include original scientific contribution and the significance and societal impacts of the results.
