- This is a major research monograph, the first in depth academic study of UKIP, incorporating extensive quantitative and qualitative evidence compiled over several years. It analyses survey data from several decades, including a bespoke dataset of public opinion data from IPSOS-MORI specially compiled for the project alongside local and national election results datasets and media attention data. Over 75 elite interviews with all the leading figures involved in UKIP's emergence were conducted. The book offers a theoretical account of UKIP's emergence which encompasses socio-demographic divides, changing issue agendas, elite political strategy and innovation, party reputation building and electoral system constraints.
