- A rigorous methodological approach to water network operational optimisation is proposed, based on a novel adapted mixed-integer differential evolution algorithm, which has both academic and industrial significance. The work was supported by an EU FP7 project (WISDOM), coordinated by one of the authors, and was conducted closely in collaboration with Welsh Water who are applying it in their water network management practices towards their goal of saving energy. Additionally, the work in this paper informed the development of Welsh Water “Smart-Water” elements of the DCWW 2050 strategy.
