- Slapstick and Comic Performance: Comedy and Pain is an 80,000 word monograph. The research for and writing of the book was undertaken from 2010 to 2014, including one semester of research leave. Primary sources including videos of performance, production notes, production and rehearsal images and prompt were consulted at both the National Theatre Archive and the Victoria and Albert Museum to piece together examples of comic pain in past productions. Further resources were consulted at the British Library. The book draws on around 200 sources including live performances, play texts, films, television programmes and reviews.
