- Description: Intuited Architectures is an anthology of acousmatic music compositions. All of the works presented focus on integrating fixed-medium electroacoustic composition and improvised performance practices in various ways. Throughout their development, the creative processes employed shifted from the sculptural to the performative – from the creation of sonic mosaics, constructed from the careful placement of individual sonic impulses, to the recording and manipulation of performances on self-devised digital instruments. This shift arose initially through attempts to analyse and automate laborious micro-level techniques, however as the possibility to interact with these techniques in real-time emerged, so too did a number of unforeseen expressive possibilities. Montages became performances, which in turn became montages again. Central to all of the compositions is a preoccupation with musical time scales, ranging from the fabrication of synthetic timbres, via these performative-algorithmic approaches, through to their integration within larger-scale temporal strategies.
Context: Acousmatic music composition, incorporating: micro-temporal, algorithmic and improvisatory approaches and aesthetics.
Contribution: The syntheses of microsonic composition and improvisation in this publication makes a novel and significant contribution to acousmatic music; and attracted 1st prize in the Métamorphoses acousmatic composition competition.
Areas of investigation: The works explore the following aesthetic oppositions: Aural discourse vs mimetic discourse; Strategy variation vs parameter variation; Opacity vs transparency; Roughness vs smoothness; Enclosed space vs open space; Coherence vs invention; and the continuum between rhythm and timbre.

The six compositions on this CD were created between 2004 to 2010, however only three of them (earlier versions) were performed publicly during that time. The remaining three had not entered the public domain until Intuited Architectures was released in 2017. Intuited Architectures, with its visual artwork and with three pieces arranged as a contiguous suite, is in itself an artefact. Previous versions of Portals, Divergent Dialogues and Concrètisations X were performed before, however the pieces mastered and arranged in this form are unique. None of the works presented have been submitted to REF before.
