- This book was the first comprehensive, authoritative study of the political, economic and social forces behind the outcome of the 2016 UK-EU referendum and its likely consequences. Drawing on a wealth of survey evidence collected over more than ten years, it explains why a majority of people decided to ignore much of the national and international community and vote for Brexit. It draws on past research on voting in major referendums in Europe and elsewhere to examine changes in the UK's politics that were catalysts for the referendum vote. Its intellectual scope and scale of academic investment are thus extensive.
