- Supported by the Australian Research Council (ARC) under its Discovery project, safety factors were evaluated for the proposed design equations for composite columns using structural reliability analyses. By considering an extensive international database of 1,583 tests, the study showed that the design model could be safely extended over a wider scope than either Eurocode 4 or AISC 360-16. The computed safety factors are implemented within the first Australasian design standards for steel and composite bridges (AS/NZS 5100.6: 2017) and composite buildings (AS/NZS 2327: 2017). The paper is also a key reference document within AS/NZS 2327 (https://www.standards.org.au/standards-catalogue/sa-snz/building/bd-032/as-slash-nzs--2327-colon-2017).
