- Funded by ERC Starting Grant (336189), state-of-the-art ultra-high speed imaging was employed to observe cavitation bubble activity under focused ultrasound exposure. This demonstrated a periodic bubble collapse shock-wave source for the subharmonic signal, the mechanism for which had eluded researchers since the signal was first reported in 1954. A conference proceeding based on the paper won the 2015 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium student paper prize, and the identified mechanism was used by the Langer Lab at MIT to analyse data for in-vivo therapeutic cavitation-mediated gastrointestinal drug delivery.
