- The global sustainability challenges have motivated the scientific community towards the development of novel, bio-based polymers. The paper led to the exploitation of a monomer derived from biomass, 2,5-furan-dicarboxylate, for the development of a new biopolymer poly(butylene 2,5-furan-dicarboxylate) (PBF). Highly-cited paper (>100 citations), presenting for the first time the structure and phase transitions of PBF, which can replace its petroleum-based counterpart, poly(butylene terephthalate). Led to a large number of subsequent papers dealing with the properties of biobased polymers originating from biomass (2,5-furan-dicarboxylate): https://pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlehtml/2015/py/c5py01367d, https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0014305714003231, https://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/acs.iecr.6b00811, https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0014305716306814, https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/mame.201800153.
