- This co-authored book of 80,539 words is the first monograph on the German Minimalist and Pop artist, Peter Roehr, who produced highly repetitive work using mass-produced material in text, film, sound, photographs, objects and images. This book is based on an extensive period of collaborative research on Roehr's artistic work, his curation of international art, his influence on 1960s experimental art, and a substantial body of writing on his own practice and artistic philosophy, which has recently been archived at the Museum of Modern Art, Frankfurt. This research process also entailed an engagement with recent art historical scholarship on the contemporary reconsideration of art movements as globally produced rather than being defined in terms of American hegemony. Ths underpinning research process also examined how Roehr's work connects to other experimental artists of the time, including Andy Warhol and Carl Andre, among others, as well as to international developments in poetry and experimental writing. Daimler commissioned the authors to write this book at a time when Roehr's significance as multimedia artist and curator are being recognised, and produced a German translation in May 2018. Each chapter is jointly written, edited, and proofed. Hayden led on the research and writing for half of the chapters with a focus on literature and poetic material and contributed extensively to the chapters Hegarty initiated. Hayden directed the consultation of the German language archive material, and worked in equal amounts to source the artworks to feature, translated extensive material and worked closely with the editor of the German edition. In addition to the text both authors worked closely with the Daimler gallery and executor of the artist's estate in developing supplementary material (including the preface, chronology, and presentation of archive material in facsimile form).
