- Seduction is the first book-length academic study of the highly secretive formation known as the ‘seduction community’. Encompassing nearly a decade of research, including 14 months intensive ethnographic fieldwork, the project produced more than 1,300 pages of interview transcripts (single space) and 800 pages of handwritten observational notes. The research provides unparalleled insight into the inner workings of this community, overturning commonplace assumptions about its ‘subcultural’ character. It makes a decisive contribution to the sociology of gender and sexuality by documenting how the twin rationalities of neoliberalism and postfeminism are reorganising contemporary intimate life in and beyond the UK.
