- Museums, Heritage and International Development is a research output from the AHRC-funded project Reanimating Cultural Heritage (AH/G013691/1, 2009-2012), for which Basu was Principal Investigator. The edited volume arose from a 3-day international symposium convened by Basu and Modest at the Tropenmuseum, Amsterdam in 2011. In addition to defining the overall theme of the symposium and publication (the first significant work on the topic), Basu was lead editor of the book, lead author of the substantive introduction (with Modest, pp.1-32) and lead author of a separate empirically-based chapter (with Zetterstrom-Sharp, pp.56-82). The substantive introduction sets out an original theoretical and analytical framework for the volume; while Basu and Zetterstrom-Sharp’s chapter is based on long-term field research in Sierra Leone conducted by Basu as well as material drawn from Zetterstrom-Sharp’s PhD research, which was funded by Basu’s Reanimating Cultural Heritage project. The volume was the inaugural publication in the successful Routledge Studies in Culture and Development book series, edited by Basu, Modest and Winter. Basu made substantive editorial contributions to all chapters.
