- 'Representing Ethnicity' took six years to research and write. The first major work (85,000 words) to address representations of ethnicity across visual culture in contemporary France, its series of detailed case studies analyse three decades of political and cultural developments within society and demonstrate the crucial role played by images in the articulation and understanding of them. Engaging with a broad theoretical framework, it contributes significantly to knowledge by probing how the specificities of different media have decisively influenced how ethnicities have been represented. Its eclectic corpus also comprises diverse genres and approaches, from auteurs to blockbusters.
