- Double-weighted statement
- I would like my 150,000 word monograph, 'The American Steppes: The Unexpected Russian Roots of Great Plains, 1870s-1930s' (CUP, May 2020) to be double-weighted. As a transnational study covering large parts of the USA, Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan, and connections between them, it entailed prolonged research in materials in several languages (mainly Russian, German, and English) in archives and libraries in all these countries, reading significant bodies of secondary literature, and testing my ideas at conferences and seminars in all these countries and elsewhere. From carrying out the feasibility study to submitting the manuscript took over a decade.
