- Village's monograph is based on a survey of 5000 Church of England clergy and laity, run through the Church Times in 2013. It compares results with 7000 replies to a similar survey made in 2001, thereby assessing change in eight areas, ranging from basic beliefs to Church schools. Each occupies a chapter that is introduced by a background review of what was happening in society at large, and the Church in particular, during the decade or so between the surveys. This builds to a substantial output and an important contribution to understanding the Church of England in a turbulent period.
