- Double-weighted statement
- This book is the culmination of ten years’ work. It gathers together a wide and diverse range of material (literary, epigraphic, iconographic) into a comprehensive survey of evidence for the book’s subject. It presents a complex thesis, simultaneously unpicking a long-held and mostly unchallenged view of the development of ancient Greek drama, and providing, for the first time, a new way of reading all the evidence gathered in the volume. The arguments are multi-layered and must range into a diverse set of fields (material conditions for performance, surviving dramatic texts, philosophical discourse) in some depth.
