- This paper formed a solid foundation for a NSFC (National Science Foundation of China) - research grant (No. 51878346), which aimed to prepare low carbon construction materials. It led to two Chinese patents on artificial carbonated steel slag aggregates (application No. 201910553298.1) and carbonated steel slag concrete products (application No. 202011103873.7). Based on the research a pilot manufacturing line for the carbonated steel slag aggregates is now being established in collaboration with Dongfang Runan Ltd. in Jiangsu, China, which is expected to utilise 0.7 Mt of steel slag each year, and sequester 0.1 Mt of CO2.
