- This was a collaborative effort supported by a Mexican Scholarship for a PhD student BRCO who spent six months at Ulster undertaking research in collaboration with Plataforma Solar de Almeria in Spain. Here we used materials expertise to fabricate novel graphene-titania composites that we had already shown to have good solar-disinfection activity, and to investigate the mechanism under controlled conditions. This research was well accepted by the international community e.g. Byrne keynote lecture EAAOP5, Prague, June 2017 and supported future collaborations and successful funding bids i.e. GCRF UKRI Safewater/Safewater Translate- EP/P032427& EP/T015470/1 , H2020 PANIWATER-CEC-H2020-Pillar-Societal Challenges and MSCA REWATERGY.
