- This 130k+ word book articulates the outcome of many years of research and experience arising from work in various contexts and different parts of the world, related to the adversities of forms of involuntary dislocation. It inaugurates a new field of study, critiquing traditional theories and practices, and formulating a systematic and innovative framework that examines the complexities of key themes, including home, trauma, identity, victimhood, and therapeutics. It coherently introduces new processes including 'nostalgic disorientation' and 'adversity-activated development', providing a new definition of resilience. It weaves together original insights from social and cultural studies linguistics, history, classics, psychology, psychoanalysis.
