- This work is a major, contemporary analysis of systemic influences that coalesce to impact on the performance of education systems, globally. It critiques large-scale education assessments, like PISA, and their influence upon policy making and the consequential pressures placed on schools that are often counterproductive. Drawing upon the international evidential base, the book argues for a system recall that repositions economic, political, and social factors as the major explanations for differential education performance. The book argues that equity is a precursor to excellence and that education systems that invest in the former are singularly more effective over the long term.
