- Transformative Experience discusses a new problem, that had hitherto received very little attention, concerning the way we make decisions about our futures. In doing so, it sets in motion a new area of research that connects with a wide range of topics, drawing upon recent work not only in decision theory, but also in cognitive science, epistemology, and philosophy of mind. In order to illustrate the underlying phenomenon, it gives a unified treatment of a number of real and imagined problem situations. As a result, the book required sustained research over an extended period.
