- Blanche of Castile is the first serious study of one of the most powerful, and successful, women of the middle ages since 1895. It is a substantial volume, 456 pages, including pp. 329-410 of footnotes. It reflects 10 years of sustained research, focused solely on the subject. Research was carried out in libraries and archives in London, Paris (Archives Nationales, Bibliotheque Nationale, Arsenal and Mazarine Libraries), and French Departmental Archives, esp. Val d'Oise). Unpublished material has been exploited, and new use has been made of under explored published primary sources, especially French royal household accounts.
