- This output is a monograph of approximately 87,000 words, demonstrating sustained research effort. A multi-layered process of creative investigation was involved in the creation of the monograph: listening to soundtracks and musical excerpts; analysing sonic and musical passages from a musicological standpoint; studying film theory and analysis; applying theories from musicology and sound studies to film. The research that went into the book also involved an in-depth investigation of the new concept of 'acoustic spectatorship', which is explored from different sonic, musical, and audiovisual perspectives, and in relation to experimental cinema and video art.
