- For the first time in literature, direct numerical simulation data are used to examine displacement speed statistics in the context of an open turbulent jet spray flame in the presence of a shear layer, providing novel fundamental insights and developing CFD modelling. The findings and insights were used as part of industry-based consultancy work analysing jet and pool fires (T. Jones, Principal Consultant, RPS Group, tim.jones@rpsgroup.com). This research was partially financially supported by MEXT, JSPS-KAKENHI (19H02076), EPSRC (EP/K025163/1, EP/R029369/1), British Council (279134267) and JSPS (S17044, PE18039) as well as computationally supported by ARCHER and Rocket-HPC.
