- The book results from a ten-year research effort that has involved the creation and analysis of 18 different datasets, containing biographical data on a total of more than 4000 political extremists covering a wide range of periods, countries and ideologies and drawing on hundreds of different primary sources. It also involved detailed historical work on the history of most of the radical movements surveyed and extensive analysis of various survey datasets from the Muslim world and Europe.
