- This paper presents a novel approach for elastic scaling of distributed stream processing systems, with experimental results proving its effectiveness in terms of achieved performance and resource utilisation. This work significantly builds upon a previous paper of the same authors [Aniello, Bonomi, Lombardi, Zelli, Baldoni, 2014. An architecture for automatic scaling of replicated services. In International Conference on Networked Systems (pp. 122-137). Springer, Cham] which led to securing a $5000 AWS Research Award (https://aws.amazon.com/research-credits/) in 2014 (promotional credits name: EDU_R_FY2014-Q3_SapienzaU-Rome_Aniello).
