- The monograph, Speaking from the Heartland: The Midland vowel system of Kansas City, is a longer form output. It is an extended and complex piece of research; chapters represent multiple rigorous, article-length examinations of variables, which are drawn upon to shed new light on systemic interactions among the variables. The project was built through collection and analysis of a large body of material, requiring more than three years of independent work by the author to conduct, transcribe, and analyse interviews. Additionally, the large body of material required that the author develop techniques to leverage emerging technologies in automated speech measurement.
