- Demonstrated a prototype fibre optic instrumented palpation device for ultra-miniaturization. Feasibility of the device was shown on a model simulating early-stage prostate cancer. Dynamic techniques were adopted to address Inadequacies in the current diagnostic tools for prostate cancer diagnosis.
It formed part of the case for the £1.3M Platform Grant “Multi-modal Manufacturing of Medical Devices” EP/P027415/1 (https://gtr.ukri.org/projects?ref=EP%2FP027415%2F1). The development of adjunct devices for medical robots involving clinicians in robotic surgery is already underway. [Contact: Western General Hospital, Edinburgh]
