- Making Meaningful Lives is a full-length ethnographic monograph, based on fourteen months of ethnographic research in Japan. The work brings together a range of insights including the social context of aging, support of the elderly in Japan, forms of mutual aid, and personal experiences of Japanese elders to elucidate the processes of constructing meaningful lives and living well in older age.
