- This monograph length work is a significant and complex piece of interdisciplinary research which provides the first detailed account of the gendering of music fandom. Underpinned by seven years of research, it offers an original and complex interpretation of the place of gender and sexism in shaping ideas and practices of popular music culture. Based on textual analysis alongside interviews with fans, the investigation of gender, metal and the media occurs in considerable depth, and the book examines the theme from perspectives of post-subcultural studies, standpoint theory and feminist cultural studies.
