- This paper has immediate clinical relevance and confirms that MRI-based textural features can identify significant tumours within the prostate transition-zone (TZ). It was the first to examine textural features for prostate cancer and has been adapted to several scenarios, for example, by drawing attention to slice(s), which require further examination for radiologists, probability of significant tumours being present across TZ and predictive information for changes across TZ. Our textural technique has particular relevance for patients who are likely to have TZ tumours that are systematically undersampled by biopsy. UK NICE recommend MRI for detection of prostate cancer following negative biopsy.
