- This article, resulting from a 13 group, 6 country collaboration, demonstrated for the first time the potential of gallotannins to promote the mineralization of hydrogel biomaterials caused by the enzyme alkaline phosphatase (ALP), the enzyme responsible for mineralization of human bone tissue. It has formed the basis of a funding application for a UK-Russia Researcher Links Workshop from the British Council (“Antiviral biomaterials for containment and detection of viruses, vaccination and treatment”) and led to a second publication with Saratov State University on “pH-Sensitive Dairy-derived Hydrogels with a Prolonged Drug Release Profile for Cancer Treatment” (Mayorova et al, Materials, 2021).
