- This collection represents the first comprehensive academic survey of the field of rock music as it stands today. It comprises of thirty-three original chapters (636 pages), written by an international array of scholars from the UK, North America, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Canada, Norway, and Israel. The chapters, which reflect a range of complementary perspectives on a common subject, are subdivided into four sections, focusing broadly on rock practices, analysis and recording; theoretical perspectives; rock environments and finally, social and cultural issues. Moore developed the original proposal and was largely responsible for commissioning the chapters during the period 2017-2019, after which Carr took over the role from January 2019 to submitting the manuscript in April 2020. During this time, Carr has acted as principal editor for all chapters working closely with authors to refine their contributions and ensure cohesion of the volume overall. Carr also took sole responsibility for actioning all post proof editing and delivery of the final corrected manuscript to the publisher. Carr, with assistance from Moore, wrote the extended introduction (11493 words) to the collection and is sole author of an original substantial chapter of almost 9,000 words, ‘Rock Music Pedagogy in the UK and US: Ignorance or Elitism?’.
