- Michael Talbot's British-Ottoman Relations, 1661-1807: Commerce and Diplomatic Practice in Eighteenth-Century Istanbul (2017) draws on extensive research to provide a major re-evaluation of Ottoman-British relations, making use of a significant body of material from Ottoman and British archives, including financial data and material sources as well as multilingual archival and printed documents. Its major contribution has been to bring together the Ottoman and British narratives of relations, and to situate the Ottoman context in cultural histories of diplomacy, providing a framework within which to examine the intersections of commerce, finance, and diplomatic practice.
